The Directorate of Matriculation Schools was set up in Tamil Nadu with the aim of providing quality education to students in the state. About 5% of the total schools in Tamil Nadu and an overall student population of a little over 25% come under the purview of the Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board. The students studying under this board follow a unique curriculum till class X, formulated by the Board of Matriculation Schools. The revision of the curriculum and syllabi of Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board schools had been brought into effect in a phased manner in the period from 2005-2008.
